To combat coronavirus, it is necessary to have natural immunity. If you are immunosuppressed then you should take care of yourself and intake only those substances that enhance the body’s natural defence system i.e., immunity. As per the Ministry of Ayush, there are several self-care guidelines for improving immunity. Majority of them are stated below-

COVID Self-care General Measures
- Drink lukewarm water frequently in a day
- Spices including Turmeric, Cumin, Coriander, Dry Ginger, and Garlic are recommended to use in cooking.
- Consume Amla products either fresh or related substitutes including murabba, amla pickles
- Gargle with warm water added a pinch of turmeric and rock salt
- Food should be prepared using fresh stuffs and it should be light so that body can digest it appropriately; In immunosuppressed people, strong digestion is very important and infallible spot to look after
- Take adequate sleep at least 7-8 hours a day; Avoid daytime sleep as it induces impatience and laziness in body
- Practice yoga mudra for at least 30 minutes; Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation is advisable to practice in these 30 minutes
COVID Self-care: Ayurvedic Formulations to boost immunity
Follow the below ayurvedic medications to boost body immunity if you are too weak to have recuperative power in inducing immunity-
- Consume chyawanprash empty stomach with lukewarm water in 20 gm quantity
- Consume hot milk with turmeric powder; mix turmeric powder as per your taste and preferences. Consume it twice in a day
- Take ashwagandha tablet of 500 mg twice a day with lukewarm water after having meal
- Drink herbal tea / Kadha (Decoction) made of -
- Tulsi- 4 part
- Dalchini- 2 part
- Dry Ginger- 2 part
- Black pepper- 1 part; Boil all ingredients in 200 ml of water and take it once or twice a day. You can add elaichi / jaggery to improve taste or flavour.
COVID Self-care: Ayurvedic Procedures to boost immunity
- Nasal Application: Pour a few drops of Sesame oil / Coconut oil/ Cow Ghee or Anu Taila in both the nostrils in morning and evening.
- Oil Pulling Therapy: Put 1 tablespoon sesame oil or coconut oil in the mouth. Do not swallow it; Swish it in the mouth for 2-3 minutes and spit it off followed by warm water rinse. Practice this once or twice a day.
If you are experiencing dry cough / sore throat, then follow the below stated remedies-
- Inhale fresh water steam / fresh pudina leaves / Ajwain / Camphor once in a day
- Lavang / mulethi powder mixed with natural sugar / honey can be taken 2-3 times a day in case of throat irritation
Note: Above 2 methods are used to treat dry cough & sore throat normally. However, if symptoms are severe then it is best to consult the qualified physician.
