Premature greying of hair : causes, natural home remedies and FAQs

Do you have nightmares about finding grey hairs while taking a selfie? Nowadays, it is a common problem faced by the youth. You must be searching for a way to reverse this process? Aren’t you? Not to worry, you've arrived at the right place. Here's some good news: simple and effective home remedies can reverse and reduce premature grey hairs. Changing hair colour is a biological thing. Melanin is a pigment found in millions of hair follicles on your skin. These hair follicles begin to lose their natural pigment as you age, resulting in grey hair.

Premature greying can be caused by a variety of factors, including B12 deficiency, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, increased oxidative stress (which may be associated with a decrease in anti-oxidants in the body), protein deficiency, copper and selenium deficiency. Despite advances in science, there is no sure-fire cure for premature greying.

Causes of premature greying of Hair

Dietary deficiency

Certain nutrients have been found to play a significant role in premature greying. The research explains that due to minimal intake of iron, copper, vitamin B, iodine, and omega 3 in your daily diet – people are more prone to have grey hairs early. Packaged, junk, refined, or processed foods, on the other hand, may contribute to even more greying. Pay attention to your diet, as an improper diet can be a major cause of premature grey hair.

Stress

Increased stress causes the follicle to release a chemical called norepinephrine. This chemical affects melanocyte stem cells, causing them to quickly transform into pigment cells and exit the hair follicles, resulting in grey hair. Stress and diet are major contributors, but they are not the only ones. Other factors, such as genetics, hormonal imbalances, or as a side effect of certain medical conditions, such as constipation or anaemia, can also contribute to the early greying of hair.

Wrong diets

No matter what external or homemade remedies you try, your grey hair will appear again and again unless your hair become strong and healthy from inside. That’s why knowing the right kind of food to take is important.

The most important foods to include in your diet are nuts and seeds. Nuts generally include almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds as these are high in copper. They stimulate melanin synthesis and cause your hair to become more pigmented.

Besides this, you should also take more yogurt, paneer, bananas, carrots, or vegetable juices as they contain more of Vitamin B that will assist in reducing premature grey hairs. They work by increasing the body's oxygen supply, which keeps your cells healthy and active and results in strong, lubricious hair.

Lastly, to put it in simple terms, a well-balanced diet rich is essential as minerals like copper, vitamin B, omega 3, iron, and iodine plays a very important role in nourishment if you need to have good shiny black hairs.
