All three Covid-19 vaccines approved in the United States
appear to be significantly less protective against the newly discovered Omicron
variant. According to a study published on 14th December, it is stated that a booster dose is more likely to restore
the majority of the protection. This theory is derived on the basis of a lab test of the variant with covid 19 vaccines.
The unpublished study from researchers at Massachusetts
General Hospital (MGH), Harvard, and MIT analyzed blood from persons who
received the Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccinations
against a bogus virus that is made to look like the Omicron version.
The researchers discovered "poor to nonexistent"
antibody neutralization of the variant from the standard regimens of all three
vaccines. It included two injections of the Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, or
J&J's single-dose vaccine. According to the research, it demonstrated the
blood of recent receivers of an additional booster dose, on the other hand, significant
neutralization of the variant.
The scientists also predicted that Omicron is more
infectious than prior versions of concern, including being almost twice as
transmissible as the currently dominant Delta form, which may be surpassed by
Omicron shortly. The research is consistent with those of other recent
investigations.
The two-dose Pfizer and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine
regimens do not elicit enough neutralizing antibodies against the new version,
according to researchers at the University of Oxford. In a laboratory test,
BioNTech and Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine was able to neutralize the novel Omicron
strain after three doses, while two doses resulted in much weaker neutralizing
antibodies.
